Sustainable Haulage
Here at Transport 29, we are always looking to the future. We understand that while offering a nationwide courier service, we have a responsibility to reduce our carbon footprint as much as possible, and we aim to be a carbon-neutral haulier in years to come – but are electric lorries soon to become as popular as electric cars on the UK roads?
Well, you might be surprised to hear that there’s already several manufacturers producing electric trucks with zero-emissions. Some boasting a whopping 440km of range! Whilst the price tag reflects that impressive range, as more and more UK cities introduce low-emission-zones (LEZs), you can expect that demand will only increase, along with the range. There’s also some innovative technology regarding the charging of these electric HGVs, with Germany already trialling overhead charging (the same as you might expect to see above tramlines) on their roads. The UK could soon be following suit too, with the UKs first “eHighway” potentially being piloted along 19 miles of the M180. The technology, known as dynamic charging, would reduce the need for lengthy charging stops and allow drivers to recharge on the move.
Whilst the reality of having an all-electric fleet may be several years away yet, we are already looking to the future and have been planting trees at our headquarters. Our vision for the future is clear – sustainable, carbon-neutral haulage across the UK. So, whether you need a small, same day delivery on a van or you are looking to move something bigger, you could soon be seeing us on the road with an all-electric fleet… Watch this space!
