Managing the Fuel Crisis: Stability in Uncertain Times
We’ve all read the headlines, and there’s no escaping it. As a consequence of the conflict in the Middle East, fuel prices are high and remain volatile, and the transport industry is feeling the pinch. Increased costs are affecting operators all over Europe, and we’re no different. Understandably, customers are asking what this means for them and their business.
Here at Transport 29, we believe that the best way to handle uncertainty is to be open and transparent, and to communicate with our customers. This article aims to help explain the impact of the fuel prices and what you can expect from us moving forward.
HGVs vs Vans
Our customers will notice that while there has been no change to the rates we’re offering on vans, there has been an impact on the rates for HGVs. This is because of the lower fuel consumption on vans, meaning we can absorb the additional costs in the interest of consistency and stability for our customers. For HGVs however, their MPG even on motorways typically ranges between 7 – 10 miles per gallon, meaning the increased rates are felt much more keenly.
With fuel making up a large portion of the costs incurred by hauliers too, the roughly 30% rise in fuel prices has seen rates increase across the industry.
What to expect
Where temporary rate adjustments are required, they will be tailored to the load in question and directly linked to the increased operating costs we incur, and we will endeavour to keep costs reasonable for our customers.
✅ No van rate increases
⚠️ HGV rates will see adjustments until fuel prices stabilise
✅ Fair and transparent pricing, agreed in advance
❌ No surprises or unexplained increases to HGV rates
An approach built on trust and long-term relationships
