Vehicles with Offload

A common question we get at Transport 29 is “do you offer anything with its own means of offload?” and proudly, we do! An offload delivery simply means the vehicle arrives with equipment or means to unload your goods; no forklift required on site.

When it comes to vehicles with offload, you’ve got 3 options, at different price points, to suit different requirements; tail lift and pump truck, Moffett or HIAB. This month we’re doing a breakdown on the pros and cons of each, as a guide to help you make the most informed decision for your next delivery.

Tail Lift

Vehicles with tail lift are commonplace on the road, and this means it’s almost certainly the cheapest option of the three. A tail lift is a lifting platform fitted to the back of a van or lorry, that can lift the goods up and down, allowing goods to be loaded with a pump truck.

The benefits of a tail lift vehicle are being able to relatively cheaply move pallets between two locations without the need for external means of offload, such as a forklift, or a telehandler.

Tail lift vehicles are available in a variety of sizes, from Luton vans, and 7.5t trucks, all the way up to 26t and articulated lorries! We can tailor the vehicle size to the total weight of the consignment, or the weight of the individual pallets; for example a Luton van with tail lift has a payload of 1000kg, but a tail lift capacity of only 500kg, so a 1t pallet that cannot be split down would be put on a 7.5t truck.

Benefits of choosing a tail lift offload:

·       Cheapest option for offload

·       Available on vehicles as small as a Luton van, for smaller consignments

·       Smaller vehicles mean less access restrictions

·       Same day availability

Moffett (Lorry mounted forklifts)

A Moffett offload lorry is a vehicle fitted with a truck-mounted forklift. Once the lorry arrives at your delivery point, the forklift detaches and allows the driver to unload goods directly, without needing any equipment or staff on site.

This makes it an ideal solution for:

·       Deliveries to rural or remote areas

·       Construction sites without unloading facilities

·       Farms, warehouses, and retail outlets

·       Event setups and outdoor venues

The benefits of using a Moffett offload lorry:

  • On-Site Independence: No need for a forklift or additional labour at the delivery point.

  • Efficiency: Faster unloading compared to manual handling.

  • Versatility: Suitable for a wide range of industries, from construction to retail.

HIAB (Lorry-mounted crane for loading or offloading)

A HIAB vehicle is a lorry fitted with a hydraulic crane (often called a lorry loader). These versatile vehicles allow us to lift, load, transport, and offload goods with ease – even in restricted spaces where traditional lifting equipment may not be suitable. By combining transport and lifting into a single service, we save our customers both time and money.

The benefits of using a HIAB for offloading:

  • Versatility: Ideal for moving everything from steelwork and site cabins to plant machinery and generators.

  • Cost Efficiency: No need to hire separate cranes and haulage, reducing costs.

  • Time Savings: Quick and efficient lifting, loading, and delivery in one seamless process.

  • Safety: Operated by fully trained, qualified drivers with a strong focus on health and safety, lift plans can be arranged to meet health & safety requirements

  • Accessibility: Perfect for tight access sites, town centre deliveries, and locations with limited crane options.
